Nan Fung Group Unveils Innovative Sustainable Office Design Featuring Formwork IO's Circular Carbon BricksFormwork IO has completed a groundbreaking Circular Carbon Bricks installation at Nan Fung Group's new corporate office in AIRSIDE, Kai Tak. This innovative project sets a new benchmark for sustainable construction, demonstrating the transformative potential of eco-friendly building materials in modern office environments.  The interior feature walls of Nan Fung Group’s new two-floor office space have been constructed using Formwork IO’s Circular Carbon Bricks. These unique bricks, arranged in a striking sawtooth pattern, come in three specially selected hues: COFFEE, which incorporates upcycled coffee grounds; INDIGO, chosen to complement the interior design; and UNDYED, boasting the smallest carbon and chemical footprint. Each brick is colored using bio-pigments derived from organic waste or natural materials. The installation demonstrates a commitment to reducing waste and promoting sustainability in construction practices. The use of Circular Carbon Bricks in this project has resulted in a remarkable 70% reduction in carbon emissions compared to traditional building materials. This achievement is made possible by Formwork IO’s technology in concrete. Additionally, the use of natural bio-pigments has led to a 95% reduction in the chemical footprint typically associated with coloring processes. These remarkable figures underscore the commitment of both Formwork IO and Nan Fung Group to sustainable building practices.
"Nan Fung is always open to exploring innovative, sustainably-driven materials regardless of scale or complexity. "This installation allows us to showcase sustainability in action to our staff, raising awareness of how even coffee grounds can be upcycled into new life." The installation was carried out using traditional brick-laying techniques with mortar. The bricks were customized for this project, featuring a central opening to allow for steel thread reinforcement, ensuring the structural integrity of the standalone feature wall. The design draws inspiration from Nan Fung's rich textile heritage, with the idea of twisted bricks echoing the weaving of yarns on fabric. This concept not only pays homage to Nan Fung's roots in the textile industry but also creates a dynamic and visually appealing aesthetic that combines elegance and tactility. The installation covers an area of approximately 15m² and utilizes around 700 bricks.
